My Story
Hello and welcome. My name is Jeremy and I’m living with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease or the disease Stephen Hawking had. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that slowly kills off the motor neurons which carry brain signals to the muscles. This results in severe muscle atrophy and eventual paralysis.
Fragile Body; Faithful God is a personal Christian blog about walking through ALS with honesty, grief, endurance, and hope. I write from the perspective of a man learning what it means to trust God when the body weakens, plans change, and the future feels smaller than it once did.
This blog is a place for biblical reflection, honest lament, heartfelt questions, and the constant reminder that this disease does not have the final word. God’s word is eternal so here I want to search the Scriptures for insight, cling to God’s promises in weakness, and offer encouragement to anyone facing suffering, loss, fear, or uncertainty.
If you are living with ALS (or another terminal disease), walking beside someone who is, or simply trying to hold onto faith in a hard season, I hope you find something here that is true, steady, and full of grace. My prayer is that these words point beyond my struggle to the faithfulness of God, who remains the same when so much else is fading.
Having said that, ALS is a cruel and demanding taskmaster. There are good days, relatively speaking, there are bad days, and there are really bad days. I would love to be able to say I will update on a certain day or promise to post “x” times a week, but the reality is I will update as often as I am able. What that looks like day-to-day and week-to-week, who can say? One thing I can say for certain is this: I have truly come to understand just how precious time actually is and I appreciate the time you have invested. So, thank you.
